The First Surgery at Hashemi Rafsanjani Hospital
In the first surgical operation performed at Hashemi Rafsanjani Hospital, a 20-year-old young woman with a history of type 1 diabetes who was under insulin treatment, presented to surgeon Dr. Mostafapour with abdominal pain. Clinical examinations and imaging revealed a mass of unknown origin, approximately 20 by 10 centimeters, in the abdominal cavity.
After preparing the patient, the surgical team began the operation and discovered that the mass was a large cyst originating from the right ovary. The cyst was completely drained and removed, and the specimen was sent to the pathology department for further specialized examination. The patient’s general condition was reported as satisfactory.
Interview with Dr. Farhad Solatpour, Anesthesiology and Critical Care Specialist:
What factors made this surgery particularly significant?
Since this was the first surgical operation at Hashemi Rafsanjani Hospital, there was a high level of sensitivity for both the anesthesia and surgical teams. However, relying on God and the coordinated efforts of the support teams, the operation was carried out with the highest possible quality.
What challenges existed before the surgery began?
Over a period of approximately three months, and with round-the-clock efforts by a ten-member team under my management, the hospital’s operating rooms were prepared for service. This process was supported and encouraged by the esteemed board members, including Ms. Fatemeh Hashemi, Engineer Mehdi Hashemi, Dr. Ahmad Tashakori, and the respected philanthropist Mr. Ebrahim Ahmadi, ensuring that all units were operational in a timely manner.
What challenges did you face during the surgery?
Due to precise planning and anticipation of all stages, the anesthesia, surgery, and recovery processes were carried out smoothly without any significant issues.
How was the coordination among the surgical team members?
Thanks to the recruitment of experienced personnel and holding coordination meetings, there was excellent synergy among the operating room team members. This coordination allowed the surgery to be successfully completed within 90 minutes, and the patient was transferred to the surgical ward in good general condition.
What role did the operating room equipment and facilities play?
The operating room at Hashemi Hospital is one of the most equipped and advanced operating rooms in the country. These facilities played a key role in performing the surgery safely and accurately, and, God willing, will also enable the execution of major and complex surgeries in the near future.
What was the most outstanding aspect of this surgery from your perspective?
The greatest factor for success was the unparalleled coordination among the surgical, anesthesia, admission, and inpatient teams, as well as the continuous support of the hospital management, marking the beginning of a valuable path for providing advanced medical services to the public.
