Fatemeh Hashemi’s Speech at the Thalassemia Educational and Therapeutic Conference in Mazandaran
Selected statements from Fatemeh Hashemi, President of the Foundation for Special Diseases, at the Thalassemia Educational and Therapeutic Conference held by the Mazandaran Province Thalassemia Patients Support Association on November 6, 2025, in Sari:
Mazandaran was one of the first provinces we traveled to in order to examine the problems of thalassemia patients.
I am pleased to be once again among the patients, physicians, and officials of this province.
Increasing the life expectancy of thalassemia patients was one of the long-standing wishes of my father, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani.
At my father’s instruction, a report on the condition of the patients was prepared and produced results in the Cabinet; services and treatment centers became free of charge.
With the follow-up of Dr. Marandi, permission for abortion under three months for thalassemia patients was granted by Ayatollah Khamenei.
Today, new issues such as employment, early retirement, housing, and marriage exist.
A draft bill for these matters has been prepared and submitted, and we are still pursuing it.
The responses of governmental bodies are being collected, and joint meetings to resolve the obstacles are continuing.
I thank the Mazandaran Thalassemia Association and all the patients and physicians.
